The event, which has dedicated some of its editions in the past to the “Sicilians of America,” was born out of a meeting between Netino floral artists and those from Genzano, Lazio, where this painting technique had already been developed. Thus came to life an event that soon became so successful that it was considered one of the most beautiful and eagerly awaited events on the entire island. Noto’s infiorata is among the initiatives included in the “Baroque Spring” program, including concerts, exhibitions and the long-awaited “Baroque Procession.” The “canvas” on which the artists create their works is the very central Nicolaci Street (122 meters long and 7 meters wide), divided into sixteen sectors. The end result is a work of about 700 square meters that requires the use of about 400,000 flowers, including carnations, daisies, gerberas, clumps of fennel and euphorbia, the flowers of valerian, mugwort and myrtle, and olive twigs, collected in the countryside of the Netino area. The theme of the festival changes every year and is usually inspired by religion, mythology, art or local folklore.

Programma:

  • Friday, May 17: Assignment of sectors to the winning artists of the flower panel design competition and creation of the sketch of the future floral work;

  • Saturday, May 18: making the works with the flowers grown especially for the event, until the painting is completed;

  • Sunday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 21: visit and display of works, until late in the evening.
