The Bompietro Roots Festival project as part of Borghi dei Tesori Roots Fest is an aggregate project of 33 Sicilian municipalities for the Year of Roots Tourism 2024.
This is the evolution of the “Borghi dei Tesori Fest” project, organized in collaboration with the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation and the Borghi dei Tesori association.
The project will be aimed in particular at travelers of the roots, that is, all travelers of Sicilian origin scattered around the world who want to return to discover their roots in their countries of origin, helping to enliven those territories of the inland and rural areas of Sicily full of hidden treasures but at risk of depopulation and abandonment.
At the same time, the Festival lights up the Municipality with activities related to its treasures, its traditions and its identity heritage with a strong involvement of the community: in particular, 4 identity treasures of the Municipality will be open with a guided/theatrical tour by young storytellers and the elderly.
In our municipality there is a living human treasure, Damiano Sabatino who will open the doors of his house to show the natives and all visitors the art of carving sticks, an art preserved and spread among the various shepherds present within the municipality.
Another identity treasure is the workshop of the local artist Gianfranco Macaluso, a multifaceted artist who moves from sculpture to clay modeling, over the years he has received several awards, and on this occasion he will open his workshop to visitors by letting them try clay modeling.
The third identity treasure is the M.A.V. Bompietro (Virtual Archaeological Museum), a technological museum where 5,000 years of history of the central part of Sicily have been reconstructed.
Thanks to the use of the most innovative technologies, visitors are catapulted into the past and interacting with the different virtual reconstructions they will live an unforgettable experience.
The fourth identity treasure is represented by the exhibition of over 200 nativity scenes made by hand, with recycled material, by the local community.
In addition, 2 tastings of local food and wine products will be organized, in particular of cheeses characteristic of the area with a guided tour inside the Bompietro dairy that produces them.
And again, August 23rd is the 35th edition of the “feast of the emigrant”, the event, very heartfelt and participated by all the resident cobblestones and emigrants who return to the village for the feast of the Patron Saint which falls on August 26th of each year, includes a religious part in which a Holy Mass dedicated to emigrants is celebrated and another part that takes place during the evening, where a tasting of typical products ranging from appetizers to desserts is organized.
