The “Burgio Root festival of the villages of Treasures and MVCEB under the stars” project is part of the “Villages of Treasures Roots Fest” project which aggregates 33 Sicilian municipalities for the Year of Roots Tourism 2024.
It is the evolution of the “Borghi dei Tesori Fest” project, organized from 2021 to 2023, in collaboration with the “Le Vie dei Tesori” Foundation and the “Borghi dei Tesori” association.
It enhances the resources and traditions of the municipalities through mapping and digitization of the treasures, traditions, specialties of the villages, in the enhancement of monuments, sites of tourist interest and contextual animation involving 500 young people.
The Borghi dei Tesori association, of which the municipality of Burgio is a member, is a partner in the winning project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Call for Ideas Tourism of the Roots from which the Turismo delle Radici-Sicilia association was born.
It will be aimed at travelers of Sicilian origin who want to rediscover their countries of origin, helping to enliven the territories of the inland and rural areas of Sicily full of treasures but depopulating.
In addition to the Sundays between 10 and 26 May during which the various monuments of Burgio will be open to tourists, the other actions of the project are:
– August 10, 2024 Museum under the stars,
– 23 August 2024 Art and music at the Museum.
The project was publicized with an articulated communication plan by presenting it: at the stand of the Borghi dei Tesori association at the BIT in Milan, at the press conference of the Sicilian Region in its institutional pavilion with national and international journalists and tour operators, with a conference in Palermo, on the web portal of the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation which, with 7 million page views and 700,000 users, it is one of the main portals for the promotion of Sicilian heritage in the Sicilian Events section of the Italea website; on the Gambero Rosso portal which is a partner of the Turismo delle Radici association (Italea Sicilia), on the institutional website of the Borghi dei Tesori association; on the web page of the Municipality of Burgio, on the social pages, followed by emigrants.
It will be conveyed on the social channels of the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation with 2 posts dedicated to the Municipality and on the social channels being created by the Tourism Association of the Sicilian Roots (Italea Sicilia).
A short video will be broadcast on these channels.
The project will reach the international partners of the Turismo delle Radici-Sicilia association (Italea Sicilia) through: Fondazione Italiani in Europa, Istituto di Cultura Sicilia Australia, Asociacion Civil Asociacion Cultural El Circulo (Argentina), Asociacion Civil Clasica del Sur (Argentina), Circolo Siciliano Santa FE (Argentina), Comites Italiano di Citta’ del México (Mexico), ICSyH de la BenemÈritauniversidad AutÛnoma de Puebla (Mexico), APESI, Association des Parents d’eleves de la Section Italienne.
The Roots Tourism Association-Sicily (Italea Sicilia) will support the communication plan with professionals in the United States and France.
It will be promoted through posters, postcards and conveyed by a press office in regional, national and international newspapers.
The actions will be integrated with guided tours of the emigration section of the civic museum where children of emigrants in America will be able to consult the details of their ancestors’ journey, consult the historical archive and reconstruct their family tree.
