Caltabellotta Roots Festival is an initiative that focuses not only on the material heritage, but also on the intangible one consisting of traditions, knowledge and historical memories of the places.
The “Caltabellotta Roots Festival” project becomes a moment of enhancement of territorial resources and traditions starting from the mapping, digitization of the treasures, places and specialties of the village and consists of the opening and public use and contextual animation in the three weekends of May (10,11,12 – 17,18,19-24,25,26 May 2024), with the involvement of many young people.
It will be possible to visit the monuments of Caltabellotta starting from the Cathedral, called “La Matrici”, dedicated to Maria SS. dell’Assunta and which contains statuary, pictorial and architectural works of fundamental artistic and historical value, the Hermitage of San Pellegrino, one of the most evocative and rich places in history of Caltabellotta.
It was built on a previous Norman building, in turn built on the remains of an Arab fortress and on the site where legend places the story of the triumph of the Holy Bishop over the devouring dragon.
The Municipal Civic Museum where inside there is a department dedicated to archaeology and on the first floor there is a permanent exhibition of the local sculptor Maestro Salvatore Rizzuti who will be present in his workshop to enrich the visitor experience even more.
The activities will see the participation of various associations and committees that will act as a bridge with our communities of emigrants abroad and will join a project to digitize the registry of the Municipality, in order to provide the visitor of the Roots with the opportunity to carry out genealogical research to trace his origins.
