The Municipal Administration organizes events aimed at promoting the territory from a cultural and religious point of view, in order to increase tourist and economic flows in conjunction with the celebrations of the Patron Saint Michael the Archangel.
The events aim to strengthen social cohesion, identity traditions and the development of the economy by attracting both tourists and visitors from neighboring countries and emigrants from San Michele di Ganzaria, who take advantage of the summer season to return to their country of origin to take part in the celebrations.
The celebrations in honor of the patron saint St. Michael the Archangel will take place in the two weeks preceding the first Sunday of September.
The main events related to the celebrations will be the following: white night – sports and singing competitions – Parades on the Sicilian peasant tradition – Literary meetings – Exhibition and tasting of food and wine products – Theatrical, pyrotechnic and dance performances – Summer concert – Summer Fest – Twinning group welcome – Day of the emigrant.
The summer concert takes place on the Saturday before the final day of the celebrations and sees the participation of nationally renowned artists from the world of entertainment.
About 150 young people, who currently reside abroad, will take part in the patron saint’s feast as part of the Festa dell’emigrante, scheduled for 29/08/2024.
The Day of the Emigrant involves the twinned municipality of Giengen an der Brenz, which has been participating in the initiatives with the Burgomaster for some years now and a large representation of San Michele citizens residing in the German region.
Also this year they will be formally invited to participate in person in the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint and in the Day of the emigrant.
On this occasion, the musical and folkloristic shows, also with the collaboration of the historic musical band of the town, will focus on the local musical repertoire and will allow the Italian-descendants to remember and / or learn about the ancient traditions of the area.
The knowledge of one’s roots to promote awareness of the value that the identity tradition must have in the daily life of citizens, whether they are residents or emigrants abroad: this is the goal that the Administration wants to pursue through the realization of the patronal feast and the Day of the Emigrant.
The immense artistic, cultural, historical and food and wine heritage cannot fail to be actively promoted towards fellow citizens who preserve their identity in this country.
There is no better opportunity, therefore, than during the celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint, to practice the culture of origin and strengthen the bond with the community residing abroad and with young people in particular.
