The “FESTIVAL DELL’EMIGRANTE” originated 45 years ago with the spirit of dedicating an event to all those who, for various reasons, have been forced to leave for other places in Italy or abroad.
The event consists of a three-day event dedicated to memory, food and wine and the recovery of the old traditions of popular festivals in the square, attended by thousands of emigrants who for this occasion reunite with their families: a triumph of identity recovery.
With the same motivations, which bind those who leave and those who stay, the community of Ficarra in 2004, thanks to the sensitivity of an emigrant, dedicated a bronze monument to testify to the moment of detachment from the ROOTS.
On the occasion of the event dedicated to the emigrant, guided tours will be organized to the “Widespread Museum” which consists of 9 identity structures located in the urban fabric in period buildings and dedicated to memory; In order to make participants relive the history of the country and give them the opportunity to take part, through innovative guided tours with live footage and descriptions of the places, involving those present with their loved ones at a distance, who have remained in other parts of the world, in an immersive journey, to create an ideal connection with their ROOTS.
Another initiative, planned and collateral, includes the re-enactment “Dei Luoghi del Gattopardo” with walks on the places that inspired the great writer Tomasi Di Lampedusa in writing the pages of the famous novel “The Leopard”; readings and interventions by experts.
An important role will be played by the recovery of food and wine traditions, in fact during the three days will be installed, along a city route, stands dedicated to the typical products that have marked the history of these places.
It will be a good opportunity, through show cooking by local restaurateurs, to taste the oils of the minuta olive of the Nebrodi, “I Pasti i mennula” a typical dessert that was produced on the occasion of the Easter holidays in all homes and “I nuciddinghiazzati” another typical product of the tradition, which was produced and offered on the occasion of weddings until the beginning of the ‘900.
All the events are linked by a common thread that leads to the recovery of the ROOTS, through the enhancement of traditions, good habits, common heritage of small villages that in the collective imagination, return as places of childhood through the lens of time.
The project dedicated to the EMIGRANT and therefore to the ROOTS, is therefore part of an integrated strategy in which actions can virtuously support each other, for a multiplier effect.
The entire event will take place over three days, presumably on 11, 12 and 13 August, the period of greatest affluence of emigrants in the area.
