Initiative falling on the last Sunday of June 2024- A three-day event (28-29-30) in which
A mix of folklore and religion determines the strengthening of relations between Castrofilippians
residents (artists, voluntary associations, religious committees) and emigrated castrofilippesi.
The culinary tradition is important: bread that reproduces the various parts of the body (from
bless and distribute by grace received); abstinence from starchy foods; baked rice, potatoes
boiled beans, ricotta, and more recently arancine.
The location was identified in the
square in front of the church of S. Antonio.
The choice is motivated by the fact that the community
Castrofilippese in the USA is very close to the Patron Saint, so much so that most of them
it is part of an association called CLUB S. ANTONIO and is based in New York.
The aim is to reconnect with the younger generations of fellow citizens abroad,
stimulate the desire to know one’s roots and rejoice in the affinities, traditions that
continue to bind us deeply.
The event and its moments of faith, folklore and
artistic performances will be viewable through social channels to create a strong
virtual bond that entices the recipients towards a journey, (possibly physical), of the roots
in which our emigrants and their descendants can discover in Castrofilippo, the meaning
of hospitality, the opportunity to get to know one’s family tree with the
access to records, the opportunity to learn about our history, our traditions and our
dialect in a series of meetings with resident scholars and researchers.
It will also be visible
to all the mapping of cultural and identity events that highlight the evolution of the
production fabric; in this regard, all economic operators present in the area
will be invited to an active collaboration.
To this end, the Mayor Arch. Gioacchino Baio was identified as the Project Manager and as
Contact person for access to records for genealogical research in the area is the Municipal employee
Instructor Mr. Rosario Mendolia.
