This is one of the traditions that have been lost over the years and that in collaboration with the local parish, on the occasion of the Year of Roots, we want to revive so that the Italian-descendants and the new generation of emigrants can attend an event that they know only through the stories of their grandparents or through some rare photographs.
The event, linked to the ancient Latin community that lived on Monte Castello, takes place on the third Sunday of May.
The wooden Crucifix, of medieval workmanship, in the eighteenth century, due to its precarious conditions, was covered with silver sheets to preserve its condition.
The traditional festival and procession was held until the 60s of the twentieth century and subsequently suppressed because it took place in a “surreal and profane atmosphere”.
From this year, thanks to the commitment of the parish priest and the Administration, the revised procession will be resumed and re-proposed, removing what was superfluous had led to its suppression.
