The Prizzi Root Fest project is a great moment of enhancement of the territorial resources and tradition of the Municipality; as part of the Borghi dei Tesori Roots Fest, an aggregate project of 33 Sicilian municipalities for the Year of Roots Tourism 2024, it starts from the mapping, digitization of treasures, places of tradition, attractors, specialties of the villages and consists of their opening to public enjoyment and their contextual animation on three weekends of the year with the involvement, after an initial step of training, of over 500 young people. – the Ancient Medieval Quarter: tour with description of the odonyms and families of the neighborhood; Church of San Giorgio Martire, patron saint of the town, with traditions told and visit to the ecclesiastical archive; folkloric dances and stories of elderly emigrants from Prizze; tasting of local products in the Madonna Park.” – “The places of the ‘Ballu di Diavoli’, a path rich in religious and folkloristic history of Prizzi with a visit to the sites of traditions, 3D museum, mask workshop, recitation of dialect poems and tasting of typical products.” – “Murals and Museums tour” to discover the murals financed by an American psychologist in love and created by American painters; visit to the Archaeological Museum, Ethno-anthropological Museum and a culinary workshop on ancient “cucciddati” sweets. – Trekking tour through the environmental beauties of the Prizzo area which also includes a stretch of the Magna Via Francigena. In addition, there will be 2 tastings of local food and wine products, “Discovering the Ancient Flavors” (an event that has been taking place for years) with products and recipes from Prizzo, including gidata, an identity product of Prizza, tuma and hot ricotta, “cuccìa, and “cucciddati”. Subsequently , 2 experiences of visits to the laboratories will be proposed: – on the ancient “cucciddati” sweets prepared at the Association of the Elderly; – on the preparation of the traditional masks of the Devils’ Ball. Finally, 2 special experiences to discover the traditions and resources of the area – “U Ballu Di Diavoli”, the famous tradition of Prizzi, with the protagonists who tell the centuries-old history of the festival. – Magna Via Francigena: on the route through the territory of Prizzo, tourists will be able to discover the well-known Magna Via Francigena, a journey to rediscover the ancient pilgrimage route that connected the Mediterranean coast to the south and the Tyrrhenian coast. The activities will see the participation of local associations, young people from Prizzi schools, experts in local history and traditions, local refreshments, citizens of Prizzo who have lived abroad, to which is added a project to digitize the registry of the Municipality in order to provide the visitor of the Roots with the opportunity to carry out genealogical research to trace his origins. |
