Every year the “Joppolese Summer” is characterized by three events of considerable socio-cultural impact: “Concert under the stars”, “Theater in the Square”, Yellow Melon Festival and “Emigrant’s Festival” and the village of Joppolo Giancaxio becomes a hub of interest for neighboring towns and the numerous emigrants.
The summer in Joppola opens with the religious festival of the town, Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, on the third Sunday of July.
On this occasion, the inter-municipal music band holds a very popular open-air concert “Concert under the stars” which represents a moment of high artistic-musical depth also for the inhabitants of the neighboring municipalities.
This event is followed by: “Teatro in Piazza”, the Yellow Melon Festival and the “Festa dell’Emigrante”.
The theatrical activity is another opportunity for cultural development of the local community and external visitors.
Theatrical performances are planned with local amateur companies and from neighboring countries.
The dialectal tradition will be the basis for the choice of texts to be proposed to the population and citizens from outside, in order to enhance the Sicilian dialect and make it appreciated by our fellow villagers abroad.
Every year in the first week of August, it is a well-established tradition to celebrate the Yellow Melon Festival, coinciding with the full ripening of the Yellow Melon and with the greater presence of emigrants from Northern Italy and abroad.
The event was created to enhance local agricultural production and to promote from a tourist point of view the territory particularly suited for this type of vegetable and which over the decades has been a source of income for many local agricultural entrepreneurs.
The population of Joppola has always been decimated by emigration, so it has become a tradition to celebrate the return of emigrants with days dedicated to them with shows and meetings on the theme of emigration.
There are many initiatives aimed at reviving moments of tradition and memories.
The Feast of the Emigrant is a special moment of encounter: families come together.
Musical attractions and entertainment with traditional folk groups cheer up the two days dedicated to our returning fellow villagers.
A remote connection with the Joppolese Community in Montreal is planned in order to keep alive the link between the citizens of the two communities.
