The “Giostra dei Ventimiglia” event evokes some historical facts related to the village of Geraci Siculo and takes place every year in the first week of August.
The event includes parades in fourteenth-century costumes, knightly games, falcon exhibition in simulation of hunting, music and medieval representations, cultural representations.
The village dresses up for the holidays and reconstructs the characteristic medieval settings of the past.
Usually the activities related to the event last three days.
Everything takes place in a re-enactment scenario where the historic center and the alleys of the village become the real protagonists of the event.
Every year, on the eve of the commemorative procession, an event of the Ventimiglia court is remembered and represented within the “U Conti Cumanna” event: the baptism of the firstborn, the engagement or marriage of the Count, the repudiation of Costanza Chiaramonte.
On the day of the historical parade, however, at the end of the parade in period costumes, as was the case in the Middle Ages to highlight the great events, knightly games take place.
They are games that take place on horseback, in which riders representing the different “counties” of neighboring countries participate.
The games end with the victory of a knight, who is rewarded.
A very interesting event to experience, both for the atmosphere that reigns in our village on those days, and for the particularity of a real competition of skill on horseback with lots of helmets and armor worn by the contending knights.
