Uninterruptedly for over two centuries now, in the month of August of each year, the feast in honor of the Patron Saint, S. Maria della Provvidenza, is celebrated in Antillo, with sincere devotion and great participation of the faithful and tourists, also coming from neighboring countries. It is a religious holiday (for the locals the “Feast” par excellence) particularly felt and awaited in the Antillean community, especially among emigrants who return for the summer holidays to their native town. The climate of fervour begins to spread on the eve of the Feast, dedicated to the co-patron saint of Antillus, St. Anthony of Padua. The aim of the event is to promote and enhance popular culture in all its forms of art, with particular reference to the popular and “Marian” traditions of the upper Val d’Agrò. Through this Festival, the municipal administration also aims to consolidate Antillo as a hospitable and welcoming town, allowing, through the realization of events, positive effects for the entire accommodation network of the area. The Festival will take place in a typically unspoiled setting, rich in colors, smells and flavors that distinguish our land. |
